Nobody expects you to know what you're doing

Feeling nervous on day one is completely normal. Most people worry about the same things: looking silly, using a machine the wrong way or being the least fit person in the room. We'd much rather you ask a question than struggle quietly.

Our members will include people of all ages and abilities, many of them brand new to exercise. You won't find a culture of showing off here, just people quietly getting a bit stronger.

Your induction, step by step

Every new member gets an induction. It's a relaxed walk through the gym where we show you how the equipment works, how to adjust it to fit you and how to choose a sensible starting weight.

By the end you'll know where everything is and have a few go-to exercises you feel comfortable with. That's all you need to get started.

  • A tour of the gym and how entry works
  • How to set up each machine for your body
  • A handful of simple exercises to begin with
  • Time to ask anything at all

Simple equipment that guides you

We've fitted the gym with commercial Life Fitness machines. Machines are great for beginners because they guide your movement and make it easy to see what each one works. You can move on to free weights later if you'd like to, or stick with machines. Both are fine.

Small steps add up

You don't need a perfect plan. Two or three short visits a week is a good start for most people. Over time you'll notice everyday tasks feel a little easier, and that steady progress is what keeps people coming back.

If you have an injury or health condition, it's a good idea to check with your GP or physio before you start.

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear to my first session?
Comfortable clothes you can move in and closed-toe shoes with a good grip are perfect. There's no dress code and no need for special gear. Bring a water bottle and a small towel and you're set.
What if I don't know which exercises to do?
That's what your induction is for. We'll show you a few simple exercises and how to set up the equipment, so you leave with a clear starting point. You can always ask us for a refresher later on.
Is it okay to just use the machines?
Absolutely. Machines are a safe, effective way to build strength, especially when you're starting out. Plenty of people use machines for years and get great results. Free weights are there if you ever want to try them.
